The Year My Voice Broke (1987)

The Year My Voice Broke

Set in a small town of Australia in 1962, Duigan once again takes us on a coming of age story. Young Danny is desperately in love with is best friend, who's older and matured past him.

Duigan shows a rare appreciation for small town life, not unlike Lukas Moodyson in Show Me Love, and works his story around it. There's several typical situations you'll only see in towns like these, and Duigan ain't afraid of portraying it the way it is.

Both Taylor and Carmen works well in their lead roles, but this is mostly about Duigan's work with both script and direction. Adding some more maturity to this than his Mouth to Mouth-work, I'm about to take a real fancy in his style.
