Please Give (2010)

Please Give

It's a mixed bag. At its best it's really both very funny and real in the way life's real, but at its worst it's rather annoying. Catherine Keener's character goes a little overboard nailing her conscience to the wall, and the director spends a little too much time helping her.

On the other hand Hall and Peet are amazing, again. I've had a soft spot for the later for quite a while, and here she's got a bitchy attitude to go with her usual edges and charisma. Hall's part isn't as interesting, but very much a typical Hall one. Platt was the third reason gaining my interest ahead of watching, but he isn't really given the room to shine as I've seen before. Not uninteresting, but not playing to his major strengths either. Guilbert and Steele are also doing a lot with limited possibilities.

Most of the golden moments come from bitterness, harsh truths and honest to life reality checks, and all those should be more used in movies in general.
