Cemetery Junction takes place in 1973 Britain, and writers and directors Gervais and Merchant have managed to get the 70's feel spot on during the movie. We follow three young friends (Cooke, Hughes and Doolan) starting out their working careers, kicking back beer at the pub in the evenings and thrown to jail on a regular basis for disturbing the piece and the likes of that.
It's more than fair to say Gervais and Merchant have got their fame through working with TV, and things that will work on a TV-show doesn't always make it in the feature film business. While the movie starts out quite inspired, they soon throw into the story one cliché followed by another. Obviously the movie drops in quality rapidly as they do, but in between they manage to get in some of their usual comedic scenes entertaining us.
The acting is generally good throughout, and most of the characters embrace the 70's within and keeps reminding us of the time they portray. I got to say Felicity Jones (right) was an interesting acquaintance to make. From the moment she arrived on screen I kept trying to remember where I'd seen her before, but even after checking out her filmography it seems she just remind me of someone else. Whoever reads this and have a suggestion on whom that might be; please post in the comment section. Anyhoo. Hopefully we'll see more from her in the future.
